Candle Care
Caring for your Gillan Candleworks candle, or any candle you buy, is crucial to ensuring a consistent, clean, and safe burn. Every Gillan Candleworks candle will come with candle safety instructions.
The Fundamentals of Candle Safety
- Never burn a candle unattended.
- Never burn a candle around children who could potentially knock over the candle and injure themselves or others.
- Ensure that you are burning your candle on a heat-resistant surface to prevent any potential heat damage of the surface below.
- Before each burn, trim the wick of your candle to 1/4". An untrimmed wick can cause your candle to burn too hot.
- Never burn a candle for more than four hours at a time to prevent your candle from getting too hot.
- Never use the cork lid to put out your candle. Cork is wood, and may light on fire if used to extinguish a flame.
Candle Longevity & Care
- On two-wick candles, always burn both wicks at the same time.
- To prevent "tunneling" (when your candle forms a hole where the wax on the sides isn't melting), ensure that your "melt pool" (the melted wax) reaches the sides of the candle on every burn.
- Avoid burning candles in a drafty area to prevent uneven burning.
- Store candles in a cool, dry place.
- If you stop smelling your candle after a few hours, this is "nose blindness" - your candle did not stop smelling, your nose just became accustomed to the scent so you no longer recognize it.
